The Thesis


What is the thesis about?


Over the last decade, the venture capital industry has been continuously shaped by a changing competitive landscape and innovation in various dimensions. This summary of the original thesis provides a compressed, comprehensive overview of emerging industry players and several innovative approaches in the domains of funding mechanisms, data-driven investment strategies, and venture-building support. The thesis answers the following three research questions:

How did I approach the topic?


Through extensive yet unsystematic initial research on the topic, I collected a pool of relevant keywords and dimensions of innovation that seemed to be dominant in the respective field of research. I validated those findings with the help of three informal expert interviews and continued to develop a first search strategy on this basis. After iteratively improving the search queries, I conducted a systematic literature review by identifying, synthesizing, and critically evaluating 62 relevant sources taken from four scientific literature databases in a systematic manner.
